AN eight year-old Lochgelly boy is taking on a Loch Lomond trek to raise money for Alzheimers Scotland.

Leo Shields, from Fraser Drive, is heading for the marvellous setting next weekend to take up the challenge.

With the support of his mum, Sarah, and dad Stuart, the St Patrick's Primary School pupil wants to raise several hundred pounds for the charity, which aims to make sure nobody faces dementia alone, by providing support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families.

The keen swimmer and footballer Leo enjoys walking and having seen two of his grandparents suffer from dementia he wanted to do something to help the organisation that supports people suffering from the condition.

His gran Michelle Scally said: "Leo is going to tackle a sponsored walk for Alzheimers on Sunday August 2.

"He has raised nearly £300 so far and is determined to realise as much as he can for the cause.

"His mum and dad are going to walk with him and going to such a lovely setting as Loch Lomond, it will be a great experience for him."

Added Michelle: "Leo loves swimming and playing football and also likes to go out for long walks so he will be ready for the challenge and he has been getting good support from friends and family."
