AS the end of the school summer term approached Lochgelly High School was usually preparing to mark the achievements of learners in the annual and much-loved tradition of the Junior and Senior Awards Ceremonies.

Although the last few months of learning have looked very different from the norm the school has been absolutely determined that those pupils who have achieved highly this year should not miss out on celebrating their successes and are delighted to share these with you now.

Presentations were made in person to the Dux of Lochgelly High School, which this year was a shared award between Daisy Bathgate and Kerr Lawrie, both of whom have achieved outstanding academic success this year.

Daisy and Kerr were delighted to receive their awards from Debbie Aitken, rector, and to mark the end of their school career before they move on to pastures new: Daisy to study Biology at St Andrews University and Kerr to start an exciting apprenticeship with EY in Accountancy.

Everyone at Lochgelly High School was extremely proud of Daisy and Kerr’s achievements and wished them every success in the future.

Other awards of note this year include the Ray Fernie Foundation Award, which this year was presented to Jack Malvenan, and the Foundation Apprentice of the Year, awarded to Elise Feeley.

These very special awards were set up in honour of the late Ray Fernie, a much-missed LHS teacher, and this is the second year that they been presented to celebrate the achievements of young people who have embraced the challenge of Foundation Apprenticeships.

Also winning awards this year are the two LHS School Captains, Ellen Ranklin and Kally Kinnell, who both received the George Johnston Memorial Award.

Although the end of their 6th Year was dramatically different from previous years both School Captains were praised for their leadership and achievements throughout the year.

Finally, the school would also like to warmly congratulate all of the pupils who have been recognised with academic achievement awards across the full range of subject areas, and whose names and awards are listed below.

The school building may have been closed over the last few months of the session, but the passion for learning, the strong resilience and the high aspirations of the pupils can be clearly seen in each and every one of them.
