DENEND Primary School staff came up with the idea in May to organise a staff Active Challenge to give back to the Cardenden community, and also to support children's Wellbeing as they return to school in August.

Staff took on individual challenges during the month of June, such as cycling and walking 100km, running 10K distances, walking so many footsteps challenges and even climbing enough stairs to equal climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!

Said headteacher Claire Wyatt: "I created a Just Giving page which we all shared with friends and family and also on our school and nursey Facebook page so families could get involved too.

"We have raised over £1,000, which is being shared between Cardenden Community Fridge, run at the Bowhill Centre, and to purchase new resources to support children's Wellbeing on return to Denend, in August".

On Friday Claire handed a cheque for £500 to Margaret King at Bowhill Centre to support the Community Fridge.

She added: "I am aware that the Community Fridge has supported 150 families during lockdown to combat food poverty in the Cardenden area, which is a fantastic achievement".
