THIS week's Down memory Lane photographs were submitted by Brian and Christine Guthrie of Crossgates; and Alan Graham, of Glencraig.

Christine Guthrie, who appears under her maiden name of Hamilton in the hockey photograph, recalls that the school in Stenhouse Street, Cowdenbeath, had many other sports teams including football, athletics, tennis, cross-country, netball, basketball, fencing and badminton.

Brian remembers the challenging 3.8 mile cross country course. Starting from the old school, in Stenhouse Street, it headed up to the junction with Old Perth Road, before turning north towards Kelty. At the top of the brae, just beyond Beath Church, the route turned left down the access to Kirkton Farm and continued for approximately a mile before turning south to cross Cuddyhouse Road, a few hundred yards east of where the M90 passes underneath.

From there it was a long downhill run to rejoin Old Perth Road a few hundred yards north of Hill of Beath and on towards the top of Stenhouse Street and into the “finishing straight” back to the school.

Alan Graham's photos recall a very popular lady from Glencraig, Biddy Rush. Biddy was reticent to leave the old family home on the main road in the village. Our middle bottom picture shows the house just after Biddy left in April 2003 and a couple of years later the site was overgrown.
