CARDENDEN and Kinglassie MP, Peter Grant, is reminding people that Coronavirus tests, under the NHS’ Test and Protect programme, are free to all.
The local MP has issued this warning and is asking people to be aware of recently reported scam phone calls imitating the Test and Protect programme which has asked people to pay for a COVID-19 test.
Commenting, Peter Grant, member for Glenrothes and Central Fife, said: “Scam phone calls are reprehensible at the best of times, but for a person, or a network of people, to phone individuals during this period of worry and uncertainty in a bid to scam them out of money is simply unacceptable.
“If someone from the Test and Protect team contact you because you or someone you know has tested positive for COVID-19, they won’t ever ask you for payment or bank details, any personal login details, try to access your computer remotely, ask you to download a link that they send, or – most importantly – tell you the identity of the person infected.
“If you or someone you know has been victim to one of these calls, please report it to Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 800 9060 or www.advice.scot”
