A LOCHGELLY family fears that the poor condition of a wall a the town's cemetery will see debris fall on top of headstones.

Marie Potts, from Paul Street, says that every day she is concerned that the wall is in such poor condition that bits of it will fall off and damage her mum's stone.

Said Marie: "As a friend's father's stone was damaged a wee while back, when things were falling, I believed that something was going to happen and the wall would be fixed. But alas nothing has been done.

"I’m finding this so stressful as we have laid our mother to rest in March and every day we have to check that the wall has not fallen on top of her, plus there is crumbling on the head stone every day.

"But to make matters worse there has been a bit dug out, in my mind by mistake, as the hole has been lying open from February and someone could fall into it and be injured."

Added Marie: "As we are still grieving and to see this at our cemetery is heartbreaking."

Fife Council say they had been ready to start the work on the wall when the Cornoavirus struck.

Bereavement Services Manager, Liz Murphy, commented: "We are aware of this issue and had hoped to have started repairs on the wall by now.

"Given the situation we are in regarding the Covid-19 virus, repairs had to be put on hold. However, we are preparing in the background so that when we get the go ahead we can get on site as quickly as possible to get started."
