COWDENBEATH MSP Annabelle Ewing has welcomed the announcement from the Scottish Government’s Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman, that extra financial support will be given to social care workers during the coronavirus emergency.
Ms Ewing said: “I am very pleased that the Scottish Government has stepped in to provide additional funding to ensure all social care workers receive enhanced sick pay where they have received a positive COVID-19 test and that death in service cover will also be extended to any social care workers who do not already have it in their contracts.
“These are benefits that we all hope will not need to be accessed but it is important that they are there".
Ms Ewing added: “Social care staff are very much on the front line in the fight against coronavirus and their important role is being recognised by the determination of the Scottish Government to ensure that they get the support they deserve.”
