THE management and staff at a Cowdenbeath care facility have been taken aback with the support they have received from the community over the past three months.

A variety of activities have really lifted the spirits of staff and made the residents at the Abbotsford complex, at the south end of High Street, a very happy group of people as they have battled on during the lockdown period.

Mandy Ross said this week: "As the manager of Abbotsford Cowdenbeath I have been overwhelmed with the support form the community at this difficult time.

"We have been gifted with a lot to make our residents' lives a bit easier during the Government lockdown ranging from fish suppers from Cowdenbeath Football Club; flowers for mothers day from Asda; food from Morrisons; flowers and arts and crafts from Cowdenbeath Martial Arts Club; plus chocolates and Easter eggs from relatives and friends.

"In addition the donation of an Apple I pad for relatives to video call their loved ones from Allan Glen and Darren Reape; and we also created a just giving page which raised £520 towards residents funds and activity items."

The Cowdenbeath facility also received a donation from the local Celtic FC Supporters Clubs and lovely messages, along with flowers, from the town's Karate Club, whose base is just across the road.

Mandy added that they have been entertained on a Sunday by Cardenden's Charles Hankin singing live on facebook streaming to the residents TV's. Remarked the manager: "We have now been closed to non essential visitors for 10 weeks and staff are doing an amazing job keeping residents well and safe and virus free.

"I want to say a heart felt thanks to all the staff for the wonderful job that they are doing. Also to the relatives and friends for their understanding and patience throughout this pandemic.

"We will continue to update our facebook page with all the good things that have been getting done in the home. We have put on many themed events throughout this time including A Day at the Fayre; VE celebrations; high teas; bar lunches; a Blackpool themed event, a cocktail bar, almost too much to add.

"I just wanted to send a thank-you to all for everything that they are doing for us. Keep up the good work and stay safe".
