NEW figures have revealed that 143 people in Fife have died after contracting coronavirus.

The first time COVID-19 was registered on a death certificate in the Kingdom was for the week beginning March 16, when two people passed away.

Since then, another 141 lives have been taken by the virus with daily increases of positive cases across the region.

Data released by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) on May 6 shows that 74 people have died in local hospitals; 54 in care homes and 15 either at home or in a non-institution setting.

Scottish Government figures on Monday afternoon, provided by Health Protection Scotland (HPS) showed that there have been 813 positive cases of the virus in Fife, with 80 people in hospital at midnight on Sunday – with fewer than five in intensive care.

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Scotland was recorded on March 1 after a patient from Tayside tested positive upon returning from a holiday in Italy.

It cannot be confirmed when Fife’s first positive case was for disclosure reasons, but Scottish Government figures reveal that Fife reached six positive cases by March 14.

By April 2, the Kingdom had more than 100 cases and that tally exceeded 200 by April 5.

Fife hit the following markers on the following dates; 300 by April 10; 400 by April 15; 500 by April 18; 600 by April 23; 700 by April 29; and 800 by May 7.

The largest daily rise in positive tests was from April 9 to 10, where there was an increase of 45 new cases with the total rising from 288 to 333.

As previously stated, the first COVID-related deaths in Fife were provisionally recorded by NRS for the week beginning March 16.

Week beginning March 23, a further four deaths were recorded, and another nine in the week beginning March 30, bringing the overall total in Fife to 15.

That figure substantially rose by 31 in the week beginning April 6 and again by 39 in week beginning April 13 – the highest number of Fife deaths in one week.

That number has fallen in each of the past two weeks with the week beginning April 20 showing 33 deaths, and 25 the following week, bringing the current total to 143 across the Kingdom.

April 9 marked the first time NHS Fife had 100 confirmed cases of patients in hospital with the virus.

The most they've have had was at midnight on April 29, when 114 patients were in hospital with coronavirus.

May 5 was the first time that under 100 patients with confirmed tests for COVID-19 were in hospital – 89 – since April 18. The next day marked the first time NHS Fife had fewer than five inpatients in intensive care with either confirmed or suspected cases since March 27.
