THE pupils of Beath and Lochgelly High Schools who benefit from getting the chance to take part in Rotary's Youth Leadership Award event received a blow when it was announced that due to the coronavirus crisis the 2020, event planned for July, had been cancelled.

Cowdenbeath Rotary Club has been sending pupils from the two schools over three decades to the outward bound event each summer and a pupil had been chosen from each school to go to RYLA this July.

But the club's first ever Zoom meeting, held on Thursday, was told by youth convener, Gerry Grieve, of the cancellation: "The pupils who were lined up to go are understandably very disappointed.

"However, with the current rules in place through lockdown, and the unlikely situation of these being totally relaxed by July, the organising committee at District 1010 had little option."

The funds paid for the 2020 will be forwarded to pay for the 2021 candidates to attend.
