IT would seem that the lockdown is tempting thieves to raid local gardens!

Only a few days after a sizeable shrub, with a lot of sentimental value, was stolen from a front garden in Torbeith Gardens in Hill of Beath, a Ballingry pensioner saw a hanging basket she made stolen from her door.

Paul McLelland posted on the Benarty Matters Facebook page yesterday: "A lot more good than bad in this community but it’s sad when a 75 year-old makes her own hanging basket and it only lasts one night before it gets lifted from her front door.

"Stolen last night from my mother-in-law's house on Ballingry Road."

And Hayley Pettigrew posted: "My mum's hanging basket was stolen from her front garden last night in Ballingry Road. If anyone gets offered it can you let me know."

The theft brought out a sharp reaction from people in a number of posts which included: "Absolutely disgusting its getting worse." And: "Don’t know what’s getting in to everybody. Cani leave anything alone."

Along with: "What is wrong with these people. First it's cars being set on fire, plants getting stolen out of gardens and now this poor lady has had her baskets stolen. What is this place coming to. Too much bloody time on their hands."
