FIFE MSP Alex Rowley has urged people not to delay seeking medical help for urgent health issues, which are not related to coronavirus, during the lockdown.

The Labour MSP said people should pay attention to a new campaign from the NHS – The NHS is Open-encouraging people to get checked out if needed.

The new national media campaign was launched over the weekend to tackle the fact that patients have been delaying seeing their GPs over the lockdown period. This is creating particular concerns due to drops in urgent cancer referrals and child vaccinations.

Mr Rowley said: “I can understand that people may feel they don’t want to put strain on the NHS or maybe are worried about catching coronavirus – but if anyone has something that raises concern such as cancer symptoms then they shouldn’t delay getting it checked out.

“If you’re concerned about any unusual or persistent changes to your body, have a look at the NHS symptom checker and contact your GP practice. It’s probably nothing serious, but it’s best to get checked."
