COWDENBEATH'S board of directors is hoping fans, and also the general public of the area, will help them put together a whole host of items they can distribute to care facilities in the town as part of their Cowden in the Community programme.

The board and staff, recognising the difficulties people face during these stressful and dangerous times, are inviting the public to join them in their project billed 'ONE FOR THE ROAD'.

Membership is open to supporters and non-supporters alike. All you require to join in as a member is an empty box. Thereafter, each time you shop, if you can, buy one extra item – a little luxury. This need not be terribly expensive and the possibilities are many.

Good soap or hand cream, speciality tea or coffee, self-indulgent biscuits, bottle of wine and so on.

Cowdenbeath FC president, Dr Bob Brownlie, explained that when the current lockdown is eased, the club will ask people to bring their box of little luxuries to Central Park and the club will share the generosity amongst the care homes of the town and other groups/people to whom a little luxury may have been in short supply during these days and weeks of isolation and struggle.

All 'members' will receive a certificate acknowledging their generosity, and see a mention in Cowden's award winning matchday programme, and the chance to have a photograph taken of their family with a Cowdenbeath player of choice – or even the Manager!

Bob Brownlie said: “The club and the town are an integral part of each other. "At Central Park we deeply appreciate the help and support we receive from the people of the town and beyond. At the moment we all face difficulties, both personal and financial, as a consequence of Covid-19.

"However, we will come through it together, hence our idea of 'ONE FOR THE ROAD'. This will give everyone who would like to take part the opportunity to set something aside to bring a smile to those who, at the moment, are finding life most challenging”.

So people can get their collection going when they are out shopping this week!
