THE Benarty Fundraisers are this week holding their street collection to boost the stocks of the Crosshill Centre food bank.

It starts today when vehicles supplied by Peter McGuire and Davie Farrell will hit Benarty and Lochgelly giving people in the streets of both communities to contribute to Benarty Foodbank which serves both communities.

With the lockdown in week five, and less people able to get out and about, donations of items to the Benarty Food Bank, have gone down so the Fundraisers are planning street collections with a difference to boost supplies with the help of local business people.

Chic Brown had hoped to help the Fundraisers with their three day of street collections and join Peter McGuire, of Ballingry, in providing transport to go around various streets in both Benarty and Lochgelly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and give people the opportunity to make donations of food items. However, Chic’s business is back in action this week but Davie, of David Farrell Windows, has been able to step into the breach.

Said the Fundraisers’ James Fotheringham: “The plan is to start going around the streets of Lochgelly and Benarty starting on Tuesday until Thursday April 30, in the vans, ringing bells or playing music of some kind to get people’s attention of us arriving in their streets. Chic, unfortunately, has had to withdraw due to work commitments, but we are fortunate to have Davie Farrell able to join the cause and we are grateful for is assistance.”

Added James: “People then can place their food donations in the back of the vehicles or leave the donation on the ground at a safe distance that they are comfortable with. The routes that the vehicles will be taking on the street collections will be posted on various Facebook pages and we hope that the public can help. It is brilliant that these two well known local businesses will be supporting us.”

The collections will take place from noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week for a couple of hours. They will meet at Lochgelly Centre car park at 11.30am and then one vehicle heads for Benarty and the other into Lochgelly with Martin Crescent being the starting point in Ballingry and McKenzie Crescent, in Lochgelly. The routes can be followed on the Fundraisers’ Facebook page and also the Facebook pages of Benarty Emergency Response Team and the Lochgelly Beat Coronavirus group.
