AS Scotland continues in lockdown, and the cases of coronavirus continue to grow, local social enterprise business Re-Employ, is playing an important role in ensuring PPE is reaching frontline health staff.

Crosshill Centre based Re-Employ, in partnership with Black Rose Designs, are jointly supplying visors and face masks to the cause.

Re-Employ's Gordon Reid observed: "As we all know front-line health and care workers are truly short on PPE which is just madness.

"It is hard to believe how difficult it is for our hospitals, care homes, emergency services and the local supporting community, to access protective visors and facemasks. The joint effort from Re-Employ and Laura Reece has seen hundreds of visors and masks already delivered to frontline staff".

Using specialist laser machine equipment for the manufacture of the visors, Laura and her partner Keith have been busy. While at Re-Employ, Margaret Wilson,an experienced machinist and long-term volunteer at Re-Employ, has been busy using a standard sewing machine to manufacture the masks.

Overall, more than a thousand products have been manufactured and dispatched. Already several organisations and individuals have benefited from the generosity of the donated products. Organisations who have already received their goods include Fife Council employees, the Fire Service, CarePlus, Kingdom Support Services, and a children’s residential care facility.

Over the coming days the plan will see dispatches to Medical Practices, Social Care Departments, and various community support organisations. Re-Employ are continuing to accept requests for support, and they encourage people to get in touch through Messenger on the Re-Employ Facebook page.

Lots of donations have been received from many beneficiaries and members of the public, and this has helped to pay for the materials and resources used to manufacture the visors and facemasks.

Gordon Reid, Business Development Manager at Re-Employ, added, “It’s been a pleasure working with Laura and Margaret, it’s really been overwhelming how we have managed to engage with and support as many organisations and individuals as we have.

"We will continue to deliver this service as long as it’s needed”.
