IT maybe a bit different from the normal Lo'gelly Lunches sessions which have become so popular in the town, but the opening of the Community Larder facility on Friday proved a real success.

The Lo’gelly Lunches Community Larder came from huge community effort.

The style of the Community Larder operation saw packed lunches prepared and made ready for people to collect between 11am and 1pm at the Town Hall.

Stovies were prepared on the Thursday and were able to be kept in the fridges that were located from several sources.

As the Lo'gelly Lunches Facebook page said: "Thanks to everyone...from the fridge movers to the batch cookers, not forgetting the face mask makers and all the folk who dropped in donations of food. You have all made this possible".

One of those involved in the Lo'gelly Lunches project, local councillor, Linda Erskine, said that it had been an amazing community effort that made Friday happen: "We really needed the fridges and through some incredible efforts by people these appeared.

"The work in the kitchen was phenomenal and by the time 11am on Friday came around things were ready to be able to give out the packed lunches.

"Maybe it was not the same for folk, not being able to have the banter of a normal Lo'gelly Lunches day, but at least people were able to get a good lunch home with them."

The sessions will continue this Friday at 11am.
