A SPECIAL takeaway type meals service will go ahead at Kelty Community Centre tomorrow in the same style of the popular Oor Wee Cafe Tuesday lunchtime events.

Fife Council is running the takeaway idea, which it is intended will be a weekly event similar to the Oor Wee Cafe sessions which have proved so popular over the past 18 months, until the coronavirus situation led to the temporary suspension of the facility.

Said Cowdenbeath Community Area Manager, Sarah Roxburgh: "We are offering an Oor Wee Cafe takeaway service at Kelty Community Centre from tomorrow between noon and 1.30pm.

"This is part of our emergency food response in the area and will be weekly to begin with from Kelty.

"As the community is currently unable to access Oor Wee Cafe, Fife Council are going to be offering a takeaway meal every Tuesday from Kelty Community Centre, for example, some soup or macaroni or maybe even a curry.

"The centre will be open from 12 noon until 1.30pm and this will run on a contactless basis. A takeaway meal will be boxed up and ready to go. This will be available via the front door, where arrows etc will guide customers through whilst maintaining the 2 metres required for social distancing".

Sarah added: "Additional food items will be on offer from the cafe's normal sources, Tesco and the Co-op, this will be end of day foods donated from these shops and customers are welcome to take this home in addition to their takeaway."

Local councillor Alex Campbell welcomed the move and said: "The loss of the Oor Wee Cafe facility, due to the current coronavirus situation, has been a real blow to so many people through not only the excellent food that the volunteers provide, but also the opportunity for people to meet others and have a blether.

"While the latter cannot fully be provided by the distribution of the packed lunches, the food will, I am sure, be of the same high quality and will be well received I am sure."
