CROSSGATES MP Douglas Chapman is appealing for residents to stay at home this weekend during the Easter bank holidays.

The MP has made the call as some people are still ignoring advice to stay indoors and are congregating in parks, beaches and beauty spots – creating large gatherings, with people paying little regard to social distancing.

With the Easter weekend approaching, Mr. Chapman is urging everyone across West and Central Fife to stay indoors and protect their health, their family’s health, and the NHS.

The Easter holidays would usually mean families heading out to take part in Easter Egg hunts or enjoying a long weekend away, but they are being urged to put that on hold this year to stop the coronavirus spreading.

Commenting, Mr. Chapman, the Dunfermline and West Fife MP who represents Crossgates, Hill of Beath and Moss-side, said: “I know it can be tempting, but I cannot stress enough the importance of staying at home and preventing the spread of this deadly virus.

“Heed Government advice and act as if you already have COVID-19 and stay indoors, unless for essential journeys to the shops".

He added: “You can of course take part in one bit of exercise a day, but if that involves getting in your car or walking a far distance from your home to another location, then you should be asking yourself serious questions about whether that is necessary or not.

“Congregating in large groups in parks and at the beach is extremely dangerous and will only result in the virus being spread further.

“Ignoring advice means the 'lockdown' will last longer.”
