KINGLASSIE councillor, Julie Ford, is asking villagers to 'stay local' when going for their daily exercise.

Under national guidance brought in to try and curb the outbreak of Covid-19, people are only permitted to go outside of the homes for an essential shop, for items such as food and medication, to travel to work unless they can carry out their job from their home, and for one form of daily exercise.

Each activity is supposed to be done as close to a person's home as possible, to try and contain Covid-19 and stop it being spread to different communities, even within the same town or city.

The Glenrothes West and Kinglassie councillor, has told us that she is of the opinion that people are not following these rules strictly enough, and calls for people only to drive when they have to collect food or other essential items, and asks for people to not drive to places, such as woods, beaches and destination parks, that are not in walking distance from their homes,

Commenting, Cllr Ford said: "I live beside a destination park and every day I see people driving to it just so that they can go on their daily walk. This goes entirely against national guidance.

"Since the Coronavirus Act was passed, I have seen the Police patrolling the park and have been told that they are telling people to stop driving such distances.

"We are now well over 100 Covid-19 cases in Fife, and we all have a duty to help stop the spread. Not only for ourselves, but for our NHS staff who are having to face the daily growth in numbers.

"I am asking people to stop all non-essential travel, to stop driving so that they can go on their daily walks, and to stay only to the streets surrounding their homes, and to help us in the fight against this disease".
