A DUNFERMLINE man was jailed for five years today (Wednesday) for raping a vulnerable 24-year-old woman within hours of meeting her.

Martin Ogg, 54, of Iona Road, invited the woman, who has hearing difficulties, to his home for a drink and raped her there between June 8 and 9, 2017.

At the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lord Mulholland told Ogg, who was on a video link from prison: “You were convicted of raping a woman in your home. She has hearing difficulties. She was intoxicated. She refused your advances and you ignored this.

“What you did was rape and you are about to pay the price for what you did.”

Defence counsel Victoria Dow said: “Mr Ogg has one previous conviction which was non-analogous and appears to have been fairly minor as a financial penalty was imposed.

“He is in a relationship and has been for two-and-a-half years. He has been a useful member of society having been in employment for most of his adult life.

“He continues to maintain his innocence. Although she has hearing difficulties, the complainer lives an independent life."

Ogg met his victim, who was a stranger, outside a shop in Dunfermline, before they went back to his house for a drink.

After his sexual advances were rebuffed, he raped her.

Ogg had denied raping the woman and claimed that any sexual activity was consensual.

But he was found guilty after trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

His victim said in evidence said that he put an arm around her and was grabbing at her breasts and added: “I told him don't touch me.”

The woman later told Ogg again that she did not want to have sex with him but he took her clothes off.

She said she "froze" during the rape.

The court heard that the woman went to Ogg's house for a drink and because he offered to take her to Dundee the following morning.

Ogg told police that he was not taking advantage of the woman and did not rape her.

Lord Mulholland placed Ogg on the sex offenders' register.
