THE reaction on Thursday night by the people of Lochgelly to the Clap the Carer initiative made the chair of the town's community council very proud.

People from across the UK were asked to join a mass round of applause from their doorsteps, windows and balconies at 8pm on Thursday to show gratitude to NHS staff caring for those affected by Covid-19.

Helen Ross, who is chair of the new Community Council that was created last spring, was amazed with what she saw: "As chairperson of Lochgelly Community Council I was never so proud of the community of Lochgelly last night when I opened my door to applaud the men and woman who are on the frontline in this time of crisis, with the the people of Lochgelly coming out en-mass.

"It was so heartfelt it brought tears to my eyes because in this time of need we should be all together in beating this virus. I say a huge thank-you to all who took part".

Helen added that the last time she felt that proud of the town was when she was handed the Surf award in Glasgow, when Lochgelly was adjudged the most improved town in Scotland three years ago.
