THE St Ninian's Trust, which saw £1.3m plied into the communities of Kelty and Kingseat over 20 years, has been wound up.

The Community Trust Fund was established when the opencast site, to the west of Kelty, was opened up in the late 1990s.

The fund could be tapped into by community organisations in the two villages and it funded some excellent projects.

The fund was wound up when the £2,500 remaining was split between Kelty and Kingseat Community Councils, and while there were problems from time to time, posed by the opencast work, the Fund, distributed by the local trustees, kept plying valuable support into both villages.

Local councillor, Alex Campbell, described it this week as 'an end of an era'.

He said: "The community fund played a huge part in making projects happen in both communities which would not have without its backing.

"Things like the Greening Group and Gala Committee, in Kelty, and the lovely gardening projects in Kingseat, have received backing along with the amazing footpath linking the village with Dunfermline.

"I was very fortunate to be able to play a part in getting the footpath project up and running and it links nicely with the new houses that have been built at the west end of the village.

"The St Ninians Fund has been a fantastic element in helping local groups develop ideas."
