CAREERS Week brought some interesting experiences for the pupils of Cardenden Primary School.

Careers week for Cardenden Primary, as part of National Careers Week, saw the school get some tremendous support from the emergency services and local businesses.

Indeed, through the worlds of heavy duty machinery, bank employees, fire fighters and the telecommunications industry, pupils got a real insight to the prospects ahead for them and they responded by asking some excellent questions

Said Principal Teacher, Shelagh Watt: "Our careers week allowed us to run learning activities and hold conversations with a wide variety of employers and employees, including Purvis from our local area, Specsavers, Podiatry, Bank of Scotland, PDSA, the police, fire brigade and many more.

"Latest research shows that inspiring young people about the world of work needs to start at an early age.

"Our many visitors from the world of work gave up their time to take part and provide and exciting opportunities to help raise children's aspirations and broaden their horizons".

During the photo session with our photographer Jim Payne, Ross Watt and Andrew Doig from Openreach joined the Primary 7 class and Mrs Malcolm for an afternoon workshop.

Added Shelagh: "Ross and Andrew were very enthusiastic and inspiring, providing the children with activities and discussion opportunities all about the history of the company and telephones, what is current today in their practice, Openreach apprenticeship opportunities and their personal transition form school to their current role within Openreach.

"Overall our careers week was highly successful. Our pupils were very enthusiastic, interested and motivated by what our visitors had to offer".
