A CROSSGATES man who drove with a shredded tyre, while unfit through drink or drugs, has been placed on a tag.

Shaun Ferguson, 38, of Droverhall Place, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He had previously admitted that on July 24 last year, he drove on the A909 while unfit to drive through drink or drugs

He also drove with his vehicle in a state of disrepair, namely in the absence of a rubber tyre on the front nearside wheel.

At a previous appearance, the Court heard that a police patrol car was in Bridge Street, Cowdenbeath, when officers became aware of a smell of burning rubber.

They then saw a vehicle being driven with smoke coming from it.

They stopped the car and saw the smoke was coming from a front tyre which was completely shredded.

Ferguson was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred.

Solicitor, Alexander Flett, told Wednesday's hearing that his client was already on a community payback for a similar matter and the offence had come at a difficult time for him.

"He was associating with people he should not have associated with and behaving in a manner he should not have been, and taking substances," he said.

"He seems to have taken advantage of the opportunity given to him by the Court in respect of the other matter."

Sheriff Alastair Brown placed Ferguson on a restriction of liberty order for six months and banned him from driving for 18 months and until he has sat the extended driving test.

He warned him: "Do not drive while you are disqualified. Driving while disqualified leads to prison."
