A MAN has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle road crash near Kelty this morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the B914, close to Blairadam Forest, after police responded to a report of a collision involving a car and a van at around 7.30am.

Ambulance and fire crews, as well as police officers, attended the scene and Police Scotland have confirmed that a man was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The other male driver suffered what appeared to be minor injuries.

The road remains closed and enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.

A Scottish Ambulance spokesperson said: "We received a call at 0739 hours today to attend a road traffic collision on the B914 in Kelty.

"We dispatched our special operations team, two ambulances and our trauma team to the scene. We transported one patient to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and one patient to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "We were called at 7.40am on Thursday, March 5, to assist emergency service partners following a road traffic collision on the B914 near Kelty, Fife, involving a car and a van. 

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews removed a male casualty from a vehicle before handing him into the care of paramedics. 

"Firefighters left after making the area safe."
