INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day 2020 will mark the third year in a row that women in Lochgelly have come together to mark the global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The 2020 International Women's Day will focus on the theme, 'An equal world is an enabled world', and the local event takes place on Saturday March 14.

The day is globally celebrated annually on March 8. It offers an opportunity to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

This year’s week of events will run from Monday March 9 and offer women the chance to come along and try their hand at sessions of arts & crafts, self-defence, ceilidh fitness as well as an afternoon tea.

Helping organise the Lochgelly event is Community Education Worker, Lorraine Mullen whose said: "The afternoon tea will take place in Lochgelly Town Hall on Saturday March 14 and will give women the chance to come along and spend an afternoon together socialising with other women and listening to speakers from the area talk about their experiences. "Tickets for the afternoon tea are available from the box office at the Lochgelly Centre and cost £1 with the proceeds going to local groups. The invite is open to anyone wanting to join us for afternoon tea…make sure you get your ticket!"
