CAKE and a cuppa will be on offer if plans for a "warm and welcoming" cafe in Crossgates get the go-ahead.

Alan Campbell, of Baxter Road, has applied to Fife Council for permission to change the use of the Target Shooting Supplies shop at 4 Main Street.

If approved, Cafe Lubell will cater for around 25 people and initially open Wednesdays to Saturdays, from 9am to 4pm, with scope to open for longer if all goes well.

A planning statement on his behalf said: "Crossgates is ever expanding with new housing schemes recently built throughout the village, as well as further developments in place for Dunfermline Road.

"With the population of Crossgates increasing, there is a severe lack of opportunities for the locals to socialise in a

comfortable, relaxing environment.

"My client is looking to create a social hub for Crossgates residence to meet up, relax and enjoy a coffee and cake."

As well as providing coffee mornings for OAPs from the village and "after school run catch-ups" for parents and grandparents, Mr Campbell hopes to attract football fans going to Crossgates Primrose matches.

He said future uses could include book clubs, knitting and crochet groups and kids parties.

The planning statement added: "It is apparent that the village is crying out for a café to meet the ever increasing population demands and to bring it in line with neighbouring villages.

"The café will provide a community hub for villagers to socialise in a relaxing environment.

"We expect the village to fully support this application."
