THE performance of Foulford Primary School and Nursery Class has impressed Education Scotland's Inspectorate.

In the school's report card, from the Inspectors, published this week, they list a series of positive aspects of education at the Cowdenbeath school in Leuchatsbeath Drive.

The report looked at 'Key strengths of the school' and the inspectors stated: "The consistency of approaches to promoting positive relationships across the school community is leading to children who are eager and ready to learn.

"The headteacher works effectively with staff, parents and children, to improve the learning experiences of children. Working with all staff, she has improved how the school supports children with additional needs.

"There is a strong sense of teamwork amongst staff in the school and nursery who are keen to develop their own practice and engage in a range of activities to support the work of the school.

"There is a rich learning environment in the nursery which supports children to engage effectively in independent learning".

However, the report card does identify the following areas for improvement and discussed these with the headteacher and a representative from Fife Council.

The report stated: "Staff should continue to develop a shared understanding of expectations of what children can achieve across the school and nursery in order to raise attainment for all children.

"Children should be more involved in designing and leading aspects of their learning across the school. They should be clearer on what they are doing well and how they can make better progress.

"Senior leaders and teachers should continue to develop ways of monitoring and tracking children’s attainment across the school to raise attainment further".

But they concluded the Foulford report card: "We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.

"Fife Council will inform parents and carers about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its schools".
