THE search is underway in Lochgelly for a site where a new primary school will be built.

It will be needed due to the scale of housebuilding planned for the area and Fife Council are looking at options.

A report said they were "committed to identifying another site to accommodate a new primary school to support development of the Lochgelly Strategic Land Allocation".

And the council's school estate development board, which met earlier this month, has now instructed the property service school estate planning feasibility group to start the search.

Bill Lindsay, the council's property services manager, confirmed: "We are committed to identifying a site for a new primary school.

"The work instructed by the school estate development board has started but is still at an early stage.

"There is no further information to provide at the moment regarding the size of the school and potential location."

With substantial building going on north of the town's Avenue and plans for up to 100 homes south of the busy road into the town the population is set to rise significantly.
