THIS week's Down Memory Lane selection comes from the collection of Arthur Nevay, the late Benarty expert on the area's history.

Being a Glencraig man himself Arthur knew everything about the village's history and these four pictures come from the former pit community.

The top picture hows a street scene from Clune Terrace and he was able to name some of the youngsters, Jean Duncan, Margaret Carr, Isabella Cook, Jean Higgs, Nancy Johnston, Betty Smith and Jean Cotter.

The middle top picture shows a scene just before Clune Terrace was demolished in the 1970s. The Terrace was the only council houses built in Glencraig and was only built in the late 1930s. Most of the housing in the village was coal board owned.

Popular butcher in the village was Robert Shepherd, who owned the business until around 1948 when George Stahly, a member of a well known Lochgelly family of butchers, took it over (see left picture).

If you have any old photographs you would like to see in Down Memory Lane send them to editorial@centralfifetimes.co.uk or take them to Jim Stark at the Lochgelly Centre cafe on a a Monday or a Friday between 1pm and 3pm.
