A CABINET reshuffle has led to Jenny Gilruth being given her first senior position as minister for Europe and international development.
The Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP was promoted by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Monday and will have a big role to play in post-Brexit Scotland.
Ms Gilruth will support Michael Russell, whose responsibilities will be expanded as cabinet secretary for the Constitution, Europe and External Affairs.
On Monday she posted: "So I received an invite to meet with Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, this morning ... and I am honoured to have been nominated to serve as the minister for Europe and international development in the Scottish Government.
"As the constituency MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, I will continue to work as hard as ever on behalf of my constituents locally."
A former high school teacher in West Fife, she gained the Mid Fife and Glenrothes seat in the 2016 election.
Ms Sturgeon said: “Jenny Gilruth will join government for the first time – having proven herself as a talented and hard-working MSP – and takes on the role of minister for Europe and international development.
"She will have the important task of promoting Scotland, building new links in a post-Brexit environment and delivering on our global responsibilities – and I know she is more than up to that challenge.”
