THERE has been good new this morning for commuters in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area with the Queensferry Crossing re-opening just before 11am.

After being closed for upwards of 40 hours causing considerable chaos for people who work in Edinburgh they bridge authorities were pleased that the weather conditions have relented after the icing up of the suspension cables provided dangers for vehicle passing below.

The bridge was closed on Monday night after several vehicles were hit by falling ice blocks.

Transport Scotland said this morning: "The Queensferry Crossing will re-open at 10:45am today, with bridge operators and weather forecasters now confident that the risk of ice and snow accumulating and falling from the cables has passed".

It means that after real problems for commuters on Monday night, Tuesday morning and night and this morning things should get back to normal for this evening's rush hour.
