A BALLINGRY man who assaulted a teenager has been made to do unpaid work.

John Merrilees, 28, of Southfield Avenue, Ballingry, previously admitted that on October 15, 2018, at Catherine Terrace, Crosshill, he assaulted a 17-year-old youth by repeatedly slapping and punching him on the head and attempting to seize him by the head.

Defence solicitor, Roshni Joshi, said her client accepted full responsibility of the offence despite the level of alcohol he had consumed.

Sheriff Alastair Brown said: "If drinking makes you bully people younger than you then you need to stop drinking."

He imposed 180 hours of unpaid work.
