SPEAKING during Portfolio Questions in the Scottish Parliament this week, in relation to Exxon’s Mossmorran plant, Cowdenbeath MSP Annabelle Ewing expressed her view that SEPA should be engaging directly with community councils in her constituency as part of their investigation into the unplanned flaring incident of April 2019.

Commenting afterwards, Ms Ewing said: “I believe that SEPA needs to be doing everything possible in terms of community engagement with regard to their investigation into unplanned flarings at Mossmorran.

“Following on from raising the issue in the Chamber, I have written to the Chief Executive of SEPA asking what plans they have to engage directly with affected Community Councils in my constituency to ensure more direct and transparent engagement with local communities".

Ms Ewing added: “I am also writing to the Community Councils covering Crossgates and Mossgreen, Hill of Beath, Cowdenbeath, Lumphinnans, Lochgelly, Kelty, Benarty and Cardenden, and, as far as Braefoot Bay is concerned, Aberdour, and Dalgety Bay and Hillend, to keep them informed.

“This is a matter of major concern locally and it is essential that local concerns are heard and addressed.”
