THE Cowdenbeath Area housing team is continuing to make progress on helping tenants who want to downsize able to achieve their aim.

The Area Committee heard on Wednesday that several tenants had benefitted from the advice of officers to achieve their goal.

Cowdenbeath Area housing manager, Russell Gray, said that the area housing plan continued to identify a high demand for larger homes.

He told councillors: "The team have been proactive in trying to identify opportunities to facilitate moves where tenants are under-occupying larger family sized properties.

"There have been eight 'best use of stock' management moves throughout the first two quarters of the financial year to facilitate downsizing to acquire larger properties for allocation."

He added: "These properties include one six bedroomed home and four four bedroomed houses.

"The Housing Access Officers continue to pursue options for downsizing and the team promote the Tenants Incentive Scheme to tenants who are under-occupying their home and may be interested in a move."

Benarty councillor Mary Lockhart said that she felt that the turnover of homes in Ballingry, Lochore and Crosshill was encouraging and she hoped it could be continued.
