THE dumping of corrugated iron sheets in Ballingry has upset the local community.

The sheets have been the latest in a series of dumping incidents in the Benarty area and have seen a lot of unhappy comments on the Benarty Matters Facebook page.

It was discovered on Hill Road between Ballingry and Kelty at the weekend.

Tom Kinnaird posted: "The whole road is under constant attack, and the burn gets filled with all sorts.

"The phantom tyre dumper is never far away as well.

"There comes a point where the cost of clearing up is more than the cost of a camera at each end of the road to catch who is doing this, and then maybe it would be more of a deterrent if actual criminal convictions were sought instead of these slap on the wrist civil fines. If it went to Court they would identify the offenders in the local press too. That would put a stop to a lot of it".

Nicola McLaren observed: "There's a whole load along by the red gate before the house at Shooting Range end!! Also looks like they have thrown stuff down the steep embankment opposite the gate!! Washing machine, bags, even renovation waste!! Saw it last night on way home from Cowdenbeath".

Councillor Rosemary Liewald posted: "I've reported this to Safer Communities, as it may contain asbestos and they will do the job.. Safer not to touch it folks.

"However, it's irresponsible folk who leave this dumped and at the cost to all of us taxpayers."
