PLANS are being made in the Benarty area to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War this May.

Events are being held nationally over three days on May 8, 9 and 10.

A public meeting, initiated by Benarty Community Council, is being held on Thursday January 30 at 7pm in Benarty Community Centre to discuss what sort of events could be held in Benarty to mark this historic event.

Local organisations and members of the public are invited to go along and put forward their ideas.

Stevie Nardone is helping organise the meeting and he said: “The armed forces charity SSAFA is urging communities to mark this historic time and there could be many ideas that people have to make it a special time in our villages.

"It could be a street party, or something to mark the day at the memorial in Lochleven Road, we would like to hear people's suggestions."

He added: "If anyone wants more information on the SSAFA commemorations they can call me on 01592 869152, or just come along next Thursday to the meeting.”
