IDEAS of what the future holds for Cowdenbeath’s iconic town house building should be finalised early in the New Year to ensure that £400,000 pot of cash available for the project is used.

That is the view of Cowdenbeath and Kelty councillor Alex Campbell as he pointed out this week that the feasibility study into the future of the town house will be completed by January 31.

There is also a time limit on how long the financial support from the Scottish Government will be available.

The Town House has been empty since Fife Council staff moved out three years ago but it is a very prominent building at the north end of High Street with a rich history.

Said Councillor Campbell: “Time is moving on fast and the feasibility study will be complete by January 31.

“The important thing is that we have a series of ideas available that the investment can be used for to ensure that the money is not lost to Cowdenbeath.

“There have been a number of interesting ideas put forward, including a museum in part of the building, so in the New Year we need the community to be ready to get involved in deciding that the best proposals are fairly swiftly.”

Fife Council’s Town Centre Development Unit member with special responsibilities for Cowdenbeath, Andrew Walker, confirmed that the conditions survey for the town house was being looked at currently and that options for the future of the premises would be be compiled in the New Year and he added: “Once we have these we will take them to the community.”
