PEOPLE have until midnight to give their views on the future of parklife in Crossgates.

Fife Council have been running a consultation on what should be done with School View and Humbug Park and if it should be leased to a local charity for 40 years.

Crossgates Village Park (CVP) believe locals should have better sporting and leisure facilities and, if backed by the community, they'll be able to submit funding applications to pay for improvements.

Gary Daniell, the council's community development team manager, said: “We’re keen to hear from as many people as possible, so that we can get a more comprehensive view of the park's use.

"This is an opportunity for, not just the people of Crossgates, but users from outside the village to share their views on the future of the park.”

There have been numerous meetings and discussions since CVP outlined their proposals last year and the current consultation – the local authority also ran one in the summer – runs until the end of this month.

Feedback will help determine if there is support for their plans and a report would then come back to the council in early February.

Some improvements are already taking place with the local football club who play at Humbug Park, Crossgates Primrose, outlining plans in August to develop the ground.

They said they would have a new snack bar, first aid room and disabled toilet facility, and unveiled proposals to construct a new covered terracing area.

The future of the park has dragged on since CVP first outlined their proposals, with the broad aims of encouraging public participation in sport, advancing education through a learning facility and improving community development in the area.

Spokesperson Paul Laidlaw had said: “Over 100 years ago, the village had fewer residents but enjoyed far more facilities including tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, a small cinema and, weather permitting, a curling rink.

“CVP believes that things can be improved greatly, as other communities of Crossgates’ size have more facilities and, despite requests, these have not been replicated in our community, so CVP, like many other community-based charities, can attract funding to improve amenities.”
