THE Christmas Day dinner at Lochgelly Salvation Army was a great festive occasion with plenty of delicious, traditional festive food, beautifully prepared, presented and greatly enjoyed by over 30 people.

Some who attended the meal would have otherwise been alone for Christmas Day or for various reasons, unable to provide for themselves.

Said Major Jane Kemp of the LSA, in Auchterderran Road: "It was quality time enjoying good company and forming new friendships. Each person left with a Christmas pack containing a gift, chocolate and pastries.

"The success of the event was a truly community effort.

"The costs of the day were met in their entirety by local businesses, community groups and individual members of the public, who generously donated items of food, gifts and money. These donations also covered the cost of toys and food parcels that were distributed around the community on Thursday 23rd.

"Members of the public are too numerous to name, and a big ‘thank-you’ to each and every one of you".

Added Major Kemp: "Thank-you too, to the local council groups, Lochgelly Co-op, Baynes the Bakers, Ivan Wood, The Buffalo Farm, and 'Not So Basic Hairdressers' for your donations, also to staff at the Mossview At The Opera Care Home in the town for cooking four turkeys overnight on Christmas Eve!

"A team of excellent volunteers gave a few hours of their Christmas Day to provide transport from the local area and nearby towns, cook the meal. and serve at the tables and clear-up afterwards. We couldn’t have done it without them!"
