VANDALISM saw rail services linking the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area and Edinburgh disrupted yesterday.
Signalling cables were cut in three places over night Thursday-Friday and caused major problems for Network Rail and ScotRail.
Network ail tweeted: "We are responding to an act of vandalism that's disrupting services in Fife.
"Signalling cables have been cut. Working to repair the damage, but this will take at least two hours."
ScotRail said on social media: "We have been advised of a fault with the signalling system between Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline which is causing disruption to some services. Trains from Cowdenbeath to Inverkeithing are being disrupted but trains from Inverkeithing towards Cowdenbeath are running normally.
"Due to the severity of the damage the following contingency is in place, services from Edinburgh to Cowdenbeath will run as normal but will arrive and depart from platform 2 at Cowdenbeath.
"Services from Glenrothes to Edinburgh via Cowdenbeath will start at Inverkeithing".
By around 1pm the problems had been rectified but the act of vandalism had caused serious issues and British Transport Police are investigating the damage to the signalling cable.
