KELTY turned out on Friday night to remember the nine miners who lost their lives in the Lindsay Colliery Disaster.
A special memorial service was held at the community centre, where villagers gathered to pay their respects to those who died in the tragedy, which took place on December 14, 1957.
An underground explosion claimed the lives of the men in the disaster, which shocked the village.
Kelty Community Council member Claire Campbell said the service went well and helped mark a key part of the village’s history.
“It was well-attended,” she said. “We had a wreath-laying and the Kelty and Blairadam Concert Band were there and did a great job. It is important to keep the heritage going.
“We also had an exhibition running up to it which people could come in and look at and remember their loved ones.”
