A TEEN who threatened his girlfriend and snatched her phone away from her has been sentenced to hours of unpaid work.

Ryan Hunter, 18, of Martin Crescent, Ballingry, previously admitted that on November 9, at the same address, he did behave in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in that shouted, swore and acted in an aggressive manner, utter offensive remarks towards his partner and snatched a mobile phone from her.

And, without reasonable excuse, wilfully or recklessly destroyed or damaged property belonging to another and did strike a living room door causing damage to the same.

Depute fiscal, Azrah Yousaf, said the couple had been together for four years at the time.

The had both been at a friend's drinking when they left to speak to the accused's mother.

They were arguing about keys to the flat when Hunter barged past the complainer, shouted at her and made threatening remarks.

He asked to see her phone as he noticed a gentleman's name on it.

He took the phone and refused to give it back.

Hunter also punched a door when he wouldn't let the complainer leave.

Sheriff Alastair Brown said that Hunter had shouted and swore at the complainer referred to as a "sexual object".

"That is something that happens when there is coercive control," he said.

"Then you were determined to see her phone, which again is control and not something you are entitled to do.

"Then you would not let her leave. It's disturbing."

Sheriff Brown imposed a non-harassment order for two years and 66 hours of unpaid work.
