The SNP have all three seats in the Central Fife area with Shadow Secretary for Scotland Lesley Laird losing her place at Westminster.

In a dramatic turn of events, SNP candidate, Neale Hanvey, who is currently suspended from the party, won Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath with a majority of 1,243.

Douglas Chapman held on to the Dunfermline and West Fife seat gaining a huge majority of 10,699.

A major increase from his 844 majority in the 2017 General Election.

Elsewhere, the SNP’s Peter Grant made it three wins for the party in Fife with a majority of 11,757 for the Glenrothes constituency.

Mr Hanvey thanked his supporters who had stuck by him during his rocky election campaign.

“A heartfelt and humble thanks to everyone that got behind me in the last few weeks,” he said. “I could not have wished for better people and I will forever be in your debt.

“Thank you to my social media friends who were so generous in donations. Your friendship and loyalty is always going to be greatly appreciated and thank you to the people of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath for placing your trust in me.

“I promise to work hard, listen to your concerns and act in your best interests. I look forward to serving, being a hard working and diligent member of Parliament.”

Outgoing Lesley Laird thanked her supporters and added: “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you.”

Douglas Chapman thanked voters for his third success at the ballot box and outlined his plans to fight for Scottish independence.

“I want to be the last ever MP of any party to be sent to Westminster from our constituency. I will put my heart and soul to make that a reality.

“I would like to thank my family for their love and support. Without them I simply cannot be efficient in this job.”
