YES Kelty will hold a public meeting on independence with former MSP Tommy Sheridan as guest speaker.

The socialist firebrand will be in the village on Monday November 25, from 7pm at the Masonic Hall in Main Street.

Jock Penman, from Yes Kelty, said: “Many of the activists in Yes Kelty are SNP members and they are a bit frustrated they have to take time off from the general election but we are a community organisation with people in other parties and some in none.

"I myself am a member of Solidarity but, other than the odd wee exchange of views, we all get on very well because we are all campaigning for the same result – independence.”

He continued: “I am very happy we have managed to get Tommy Sheridan to speak as I know how good he is at putting forward a political message, where people don’t feel they are being lied to, bored or put off by bluster and gobbledygook.

"We really enjoyed his last visit here when he answered a lot of questions and doubts from people who were unsure about how an independent Scotland would work out.”

Mr Sheridan said he was looking forward to returning to Kelty: “I have a great respect for villages like Kelty who have managed to defend their communities in spite of the savage attacks by Thatcher and successive governments whose policies have brought unemployment and the poverty and misery that can bring.

"My message to people is – come along and hear us out and ask questions, put your ideas forward and argue your point of view. I believe many people just didn’t ask enough questions in 2014.

“They might well want to find out more now, particularly since we have an unelected, dogmatic servant of the billionaires for a Prime Minister.”
