FIVE parties already chosen their candidate to contest December’s General Election in the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath Constituency..

Former SNP group leader on Fife Council, Neale Hanvey, was first to declare his candidacy last month before the election had even been announced before Labour’s Lesley Laird then affirmed her intent to fight the seat for Labour, and then the Conservatives and Greens have revealed their candidates.

Fife councillor, Kathleen Leslie, will stand for the Conservatives, while the Green Party plan to put forward campaigner Scott Rutherford.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats cause will be carried by Gillian Cole-Hamilton.

In Dunfermline and West Fife, which includes Crossgates, Hill of Beath and Moss-side, the line-up has Douglas Chapman defending the seat for the SNP, with Cara Hilton contesting for Labour; Rebecca Bell, for the Liberal Democrats and Mags Hall for the Scottish Greens.

In Glenrothes, which includes Cardenden and Kinglassie, Peter Grant is defending for the SNP and the full list for this seat will appear this week..

Should any other parties or independents wish to declare their candidacy for the three seats, they will have to do so before November 14 at 4pm.

The full list of candidates will then be published on November 16.
