SUNDAY saw a local lady remembered and an amazing sum raised in her memory, at an event held in Cowdenbeath.

A 'Tipsy Afternoon Tea' was held in Wee Jimmies, when £2,855 was realised for the Maggies Centre, in Kirkcaldy.

Sheena Sharp (nee Main) had been battling cancer for seven years and sadly on September 23 she lost her fight.

The theme of the fundraiser was 'Shine Bright Like a Diamond', recorded by Rihanna, Sheena's favourite number, which was the song played at her funeral.

Cowdenbeath woman, Marie Shevas, a close friend of Sheena, and several other of her friends, decided to hold the 'Tipsy Afternoon Tea' remembering what an amazing woman Sheena was.

Said Marie: "This idea was initiated by Sheena in May, who wanted to thank all the staff for the care of her and support she received.

"Sadly in June her health deteriorated, but we made a promise that we would carry out her wish and myself, Gillian, Jill, Catherine, Pam, Margaret and Ann Marie formed a group to make it happen.

"Gary Roy and Linda, at Wee Jimmies, were fantastic in donating the Tipsy Afternoon Tea (Pink Gin In Teapots) and Catherine and friends donated all the cakes and scones which were an amazing sight".

She added: "We have been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity donating china tea sets and raffle prizes for our event.

"We raised an amazing £2,855, which was only possible by some tremendous support from so many people."

Dave Foster, from the Maggie's Centre, went to Wee Jimmies on Sunday and gave a brief talk on the work done at Maggie's Centres and Marie added: "We were lucky to have Ross Martin, as a wonderful host, who again gave up his free time.

"Sheena's mum, Patsy, and sister Lesley-Ann, wish to sincerely thank everyone for going along to make the day a huge success.

"Sheena was a beautiful person inside and out. She battled her illness, never complaining, but always supporting others with the same crippling disease, always elegant, quite shy and preferring to stay in the background.

"Sheena truly did 'Shine Bright Like a Diamond'."
