JENNY Gilruth has written to all EU Citizens living in her Mid Fife and Glenrothes constituency, including Kinglassie, as the October 31 Brexit deadline approaches, to offer advice and support and encourage them to apply for settled status.

EU Citizens living in the UK have to apply for settled status as part of the UK Government’s post-Brexit registration system.

Earlier this month figures revealed that fewer than one third of EU Citizens living in Fife had signed up to the UK Government’s EU Settlement Scheme.

In her letter to constituents, the MSP writes: “I know that Brexit is causing undue stress to many families and individuals in my constituency but I want you to know that your continued contribution to life in Fife, and Scotland, is valued by me and my Parliamentary colleagues.

“To quote the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon Scotland is your home, you are welcome here, and you are valued.”

She added: “No matter what happens with Brexit in the coming weeks, I hope you will apply for settled status and continue to make Fife and Scotland your home.”

The Fife MSP held a special joint advice surgery with Citizens Advice & Rights Fife (CARF) for EU Citizens living in Mid Fife and Glenrothes at the beginning of October.

Nina Munday, Manager, at Fife Centre for Equalities said: “Fife Centre for Equalities wish to thank Jenny Gilruth MSP for her effort in informing EU Citizens living or studying in Fife about the support available to help them to stay in Fife.

“Fife EU Settlement Partnership can offer support and assistance in applying for settlement status. To access this support, individuals only need to fill in a simple form on centreforequalities.org.uk/EUreferral or call 01592 645310.”

Any constituents affected are encouraged to contact Jenny’s constituency office on 01592 764815 or email her at jenny.gilruth.msp@parliament.scot at any time in the coming weeks for advice and support.
