A COWDENBEATH councillor has urged drivers going through the new traffic lights system at the north end of High Street to proceed with caution.

The councillor agrees with the Times reader who has aired his concern about how the traffic lights system at the new retail park in the town is operating, with some drivers seemingly confused about who has right away.

Conservative councillor for Cowdenbeath, Darren Watt said; "As a local resident and someone who uses that stretch of road several times a day, I completely understand the concerns raised by motorists.

"Although the existing infrastructure wouldn't have made it easy to implement a new road layout, I am seeking assurances that this is the most safest and sensible option going forward".

He added: "At the end of the day, Lidl have yet to open their doors, and when they do, we will once again see a large increase in local traffic. "I will continue to work alongside my constituents and Fife Council to ensure the safety and well-being of road users and pedestrians is absolutely paramount.

"In the meantime, I would encourage drivers approaching the new layout to proceed with caution and be aware of the potential actions of other road users."
