PLANS for a roadside cafe on the outskirts of Kelty are back on the table.

John Day had previously submitted and then withdrew proposals for a new venture at The Dairy, Cantsdam, on the Old Perth Road.

He had applied for a change of use, from a house to a cafe with alterations for vehicle access, but Fife Council had intimated he hadn't supplied enough information to justify the change.

The plan was withdrawn in May and a fresh application has now been made.

A planning statement on his behalf said: "Any party who knows the area well will be acutely aware of the lack of a café facility to cater principally for the needs of those that visit this rural locale for recreational purposes and for those living out of town.

"This problem has been made worse recently with the closure of Baxters Tea Room at Home Farm, Kelty – the only rural tearoom facility within this area of the countryside.

"Essentially the presence of a place to stop, rest, get warm, drink, eat and socialise is vital for a rural location which is regularly frequented by day trippers and used by walkers, cyclists, bird watchers and anglers."

It added: "The majority of the internal floorspace (approximately 30 square metres) will be used to accommodate an open plan seating area for patrons of the cafe.

"It is proposed to offer a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks to patrons. Dogs will be welcome."
